This Week's Testing Schedule & Info.
Posted Apr 1, 2013, 10:47 AM by Angela Furnari
Dear 8C Parents,
This week, we will have a modified bell schedule (see attachment) on Tuesday 04/02 (Testing Blue), Wednesday 04/03 (Testing Green), and Thursday 04/04 (Testing Blue) in order to accommodate for STAAR Testing. For each of these days, 8C students will be assigned to a room in the 7C hallway.
On Tuesday 04/02 (Testing Blue), 8C students will take either an IPC or Science 8 Test, and will then work on other assigned cluster work. The 8th Grade Science STAAR will be later this month on 04/24.
On Wednesday 04/03 (Testing Green), ALL 8C students will take the 8th Grade Reading STAAR.
On Thursday 04/04 (Testing Blue), 8C Pre-Algebra students will take the 8th Grade Math STAAR, while Algebra & Geometry students will work on Algebra & Geometry assignments. Mrs. Qureshi & Dr. Hamilton have communicated to the Algebra & Geometry students about how these assignments will count towards their math grades.
For students taking official STAAR Tests, they must NOT bring any electronics into the testing room. They may only bring a pencil and a reading book (no e-readers, Kindles, or iPads). It is critical that cell phones are turned off and locked in lockers per school policy or left at home.
Please make sure students have adequate sleep prior to testing.
Lunch & Snacks
Since students must receive four hours of STAAR Testing Time, you will notice that lunches will start later than normal.
Students are encouraged to bring snacks to help them focus, provided that snacks meet the following guidelines:
· Reasonably healthy.
· Not messy.
· Not loud. Please take snacks out of any loud packaging & place in Ziploc bags.
· Drinks must be non-caffeinated and non-carbonated, and must have a close-tight lid. No cans, juice boxes, or pouches. Water is best.
Also, students have been made aware that any time spent snacking does NOT equal extra time to complete the test. If students pause to snack, the clock keeps ticking.
Importance of STAAR Tests
While we don’t want any students to feel overwhelmed by STAAR, since they are being well-prepared in class, please help us to reinforce the importance of these assessments to your students. Doing well on STAAR is an important part of meeting HISD’s promotion standards, and high schools will be looking at STAAR data as they make decisions about proper course placement for incoming 9th graders.
Thank you for your help, and for being such an amazing group of supportive parents! J
